lucky penny loved nursery rhymes as a tot.

this little piggy trotted her hooves wee wee wee all the waaaaay to maialino enoteca. the resto takes its moniker, translating to “little pig”, very seriously.

this little piggy started with parmigiana in vetro, a layered parmigiano mousse with roasted eggplant purée. then this little piggy got heavy duty with the costole di manzo, a slow roasted short rib, glazed in a nero d’avolo wine sauce. stuffed pig, indeed.

and this little piggy definitely could not leave without nibbling on a homemade cannoli or two… or three.

lucky penny can occasionally be superstitious… it is friday the thirteenth, after all.

if a penny is found tails up, or if a black cat crosses her path, or if she walks under a ladder, bad luck will follow. but then again, life is like a deck of cards. she wins some. she loses some. our girl will never quit… until she screams uno!

uno is a one-night-only, street art show pop-up taqueria… say that 10 times fast… where she will feast on tacos, tostados and churros from la carnita… and prolly purchase pieces for the empty walls in her new home. admission is free. there will be dope tunes spinning, too.

lucky penny is a compost cookie monster.

this little piggy was not at the market, but went all the way to the momofuku milk bar in midtown manhattan.

after her dinner at má pêche (directly behind the milk bar), where she indulged on dishes like beef tartare, spring rolls, crispy pig’s head, striped bass and brussels sprouts (the most memorable of them all), she treated herself to soft served cereal milk ice cream, and chef david chang’s famous cookies.

cornflake marshmallow chocolate chip was her breakfast of champions the very next day. only if she had room for their crack pie. next time.

lucky penny gets teased a lot about the contents (er, lack there of) in her fridge… chocolate, früli, and maybe some leftovers—on a good week. but can you really blame her when there are so many *new* restos opening in her fair city?

a few weeks ago, bestie’s boyfriend was in from out of town, so resos were booked at l’ouvrier kitchen bar… the pink table, of course. having nursed a hangover (prolly plural) over their delish brunch menu, it was time to see how dinner matched up.

cocktails: manhattans for the girls, and a duggans brew for cute boyfriend.

starters: steak tartare and a macintosh apple, baby rocket salad to share. so far, so good.

mains: butternut squash ravioli, leg of rabbit and wellington county beef burger with fries.

portions were the perfect size, but the standout item was the fries. glorious, glorious frites. bestie boyfriend pro tip: mix the kozlik’s, mayo and ketchup for legit awesomesauce.

lucky penny is absolutely convinced she has green blood coursing through her veins.

she and cute boyfriend spent two weeks driving around the emerald isle… listening to wonderful live music, exploring quaint villages with names like dingle and inistioge, and trying not to run-over sheep.

for this very reason, you will find them celebrating st. patrick’s day at the ceili cottage… guinness in hand, natch.
